Categories:
A member may submit one photo per category in up
to three of the following eight categories: digital, color print, and
monochrome print of the Assigned subject; slide, color print, and
monochrome print of the Open subject; slide and print of the Challenge subject. Photos MUST be submitted BEFORE 7:15 pm on
competition night to allow the Competition Committee time to organize
the entries for viewing, except for digital slides which must be
emailed BEFORE 9:00 pm on the prior Wednesday.
Classes:
Members may compete in one of two classes: A (advanced) or B
(beginner). Photos in both classes are judged against all other photos
submitted; however, scores are grouped by competition class (except for
the Challenge category). The intent is for each member to
compete at his/her skill level and win peer recognition over time with
improving photos. Only Forum members may participate in competitions
after the September meeting.
Photos:
May be of any age(a recent or older work) and may have previously been submitted in
other competitions (at the Photographers Forum or elsewhere). However,
no photo may be resubmitted after it has won an award in a
Photographers Forum competition. Film and digital entries are eligible. A photo may be manipulated to fix defects, add texture, enhance
elements, or combine it with another photo. The photo(s) and all
manipulations must be the original work of the entrant.
Entry Forms:
You can save time at monthly meetings by filling in competition entry
forms(color-coded by category; not applicable for digital slides)
ahead of time. You can pick up extra forms at a prior meeting, or Print Your Own Entry Forms. The forms are used by the Competition Committee to record scoring and winners.
Digital Entries:
Must be in JPEG format and sized to fit within the projector
limitations of 1024 x 768 (horizontal x vertical) pixels. See the Guidelines for Digital Image submissions for details and the projector calibration image for a sample digital slide.
Prints:
Are mounted on a backing so they can be stood on edge for viewing, and
may optionally have a matt border. Prints must have an image area of at
least 5 x 7 inches (so they are viewable by all), and an overall size
(including matt) between 8 x 10 and 16 x 20 inches (so they will fit
inside the viewing booth). Use a Print Label (or write) on the back top
center the title and competition category of the photo, and the
member's name and competition class (A or B).
Note: If you wish, you can pick up Print Labels at a prior meeting, or you can Make Your Own Print Labels.
Note:
Judges generally view the prints from approximately an 8-foot distance.
As such, larger prints frequently score better than equally good
smaller prints.
Monochrome prints:
Monochrome prints must be monochrome. Additional highlight colors are not permitted in the Monochrome category at Photographers Forum. Feel free to submit those images in the Color categories.
