The 2007-08 season has brought some substantial changes to the Forum. Here are some highlights.
Dan Brown New President
Dan Brown follows in the large footsteps of Al McMullen. We are sure he will fill those footsteps (in a little bit!) A past VP, Dan has been an enthusiastic and extremely talented member of the Forum for more than a few years now, and during that time has given of himself through informative and entertaining presentations. He has also ably substituted for Al during meetings, and has been engaging and helpful with new members. We are confident he will make a great President. Congratulations, Dan.
Al McMullen retires to President Emeritus, with all the benefits therein. (whatever those are!) Seriously, he can now relax in the audience, and feel free to give Dan a hard time (at least to keep him on his toes!)
Al has made his job look easy, though we know it wasn’t. His easy manner, humor and take charge attitude when needed, served the Forum well. The club has grown considerably during his tenure, and Al took all the challenges that presented in stride. Al’s tenure is longer than we are sure about, but we think it was about seven years, give or take. We are certain his reign was the longest in Forum history, and that was for good reason. "If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!" Actually, it still ain’t broke. Al just felt it was time to let someone else drive. We will be forever grateful for his able service. Thank you, Al.
Fred Shirley New Vice President
Fred Shirley replaces Dan Brown as Vice President. Fred has been a constant source of ideas and contributions throughout his years at the Forum. He has a well of enthusiasm that can be contagious. Fred created our first web site virtually single-handed. I think his natural ability to troubleshoot served him well, here! We welcome him as new VP, and are sure he will handle his duties admirably. Congratulations, Fred.
Pete Johnson New Competition Chair
Pete Johnson will be replacing Ray Cardello as Competition Chair. Pete is a long time member of the Forum, and has been a member of the Program committee. He has creatively chosen our competition subjects for the last few seasons, and they have been received enthusiastically. Pete regularly helps out with the competitions, so he should be comfortable with the transition. Congratulations, Pete.
Many thanks to Ray Cardello for his outstanding job as Competition Chair. Ray instituted many positive changes over the last years, including our expanded judging and brought us into the digital age with BGHS’s new LCD projector. The Competition Chair is a time-consuming and important position. Ray has been very patient and inventive while dealing with the growing pains as so many new members have arrived. It has been very rare that the competitions have any glitches, and Ray and his team have handled the few that occurred with grace and humor. Thanks much, Ray.
