The Jack Nowicki Award, established in 2006, is awarded annually to the photograph of the year. Club members selected Undercolfer’s photo from among 20 others which had been entered previously in monthly competitions. Jack Nowicki was a charter member of the club who died of stomach cancer in 2005. Born in Warsaw, Poland, Nowicki at age six escaped with his family from the Nazis to Holland. After immigrating to Canada, Jack Nowicki graduated from McGill University in Montreal and then moved to the US. Soon after settling into a small Manchester apartment, the lifelong, avid photographer quickly converted a bathroom into a dark room. Ever open to new developments in photography, he accepted digital photography and eventually embraced it with the passion he had previously applied to film. Soon after his death, the award was established in his name with club member Albert Wilkinson stepping forth to engrave the plaque and subsequent winners names. In addition to Natalie Undercolfer, past winners include Phil Johnson, Ed Blake, Ken Harvey and Albert Wilkinson.
